Privacy policy
The short version: you do not need an account, and the app never asks for your name, email address, phone number or precise location. It collects a small amount of technical and usage data to keep the app working, send the notifications you choose, and show ads.
Who we are
The app is published by Echoraise. Unofficial devotional app. Not affiliated with Shri Shyam Mandir Committee, Khatu Shyamji. It brings together darshan photos, aarti videos, bhajans, wallpapers and news that the temple publishes openly, so that devotees can follow them in one place.
What the app collects
When you use the app, the following data is processed automatically. None of it identifies you by name.
| Data | Why | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| An anonymous installation ID created by Firebase when you first open the app (there is no sign-in) | To let the app read content securely and to count installs and active users | Google (Firebase Authentication) |
| App usage events, such as which screen or feature you opened (darshan, bhajan, wallpaper, news, jaap, language change), with the device model, Android version, app version, language and approximate region | To understand which features are used and improve the app | Google (Firebase Analytics) |
| Crash reports and diagnostics: the error, the state of the app when it failed, device model and Android version | To find and fix crashes | Google (Firebase Crashlytics) |
| A push notification token, and the notification topics you switched on | To deliver the notifications you chose | Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) |
| Advertising ID, IP address and ad interaction data, only when ads are switched on in the app | To show and measure ads, and to limit how often you see them | Google (AdMob) |
| Your IP address and request details when the app loads images and content | To deliver content and protect the service from abuse | Google (Firebase), Cloudflare (images and content delivery) |
This data is used only for the purposes in the table. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to build a profile of who you are.
What it does not collect
- No name, email address, phone number, address or date of birth.
- No precise or background location.
- No contacts, calendar, messages, microphone or camera.
- No access to your photos or files. The app can save a picture you chose into your gallery and set a wallpaper, but it never reads your gallery.
- No payment information. The app has no purchases.
Data stored only on your phone
These stay on your device and are not sent to us: your language choice, favourite bhajans, jaap counts and streak, aarti reminder choices, text size, notification choices, and the timer for the “ad-free” reward. Removing the app, or clearing its data in Android settings, deletes them.
Permissions
- Internet: to load content.
- Notifications: to show the notifications you choose. The app asks once; you can change this in Android settings or under More in the app.
- Set wallpaper: only when you tap “Set as wallpaper”.
- Start at boot: so that aarti reminders you switched on keep working after the phone restarts.
- Storage (older Android versions only): to save a picture to your gallery when you tap save.
- Advertising ID: used by the ad service when ads are shown. You can reset or delete it in Android settings.
Services that process data
The app uses these services. Each has its own privacy policy and acts under its own terms:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging): policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdMob (advertising): policies.google.com/technologies/ads
- YouTube (embedded video player): youtube.com/t/terms and the Google policy above
- Cloudflare (delivery of images and background processing of content): cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Vercel (hosting of the admin panel used by our team; it shows our team only aggregate counts)
Data may be processed on servers outside India, including in the United States and Europe, by these providers under their own safeguards.
Ads and your choices
The app may show ads from Google AdMob. We ask AdMob to show only content suitable for a general audience. In regions where the law requires it (for example the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the app shows a consent form first and does not request ads until you choose. You can reopen that form later under More → Ad privacy settings when it applies to you.
On Android you can also reset your advertising ID, switch off ad personalisation, or delete the advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads. Watching an optional rewarded ad in the app switches other ads off for a limited time. It does not collect anything beyond what is described here.
Notifications
Notifications are optional. If you allow notifications, the app turns on the types we offer (daily darshan, live aarti, news and festivals) so you do not miss them. You can switch each type off any time under More in the app, or turn off notifications in Android settings. Aarti reminders are scheduled on your phone itself.
YouTube videos
Aarti and bhajan videos are played with YouTube’s official embedded player. While a video is on screen, YouTube may collect data as described in its own policy, such as your IP address and viewing activity. The app does not download or copy the videos. Videos and their titles belong to their owners.
How long data is kept
- Analytics data is kept by Google for up to 14 months.
- Crash reports are kept for about 90 days.
- The anonymous installation ID and notification token stay until the app is removed or the data is deleted at your request.
- Data stored on your phone stays until you remove the app or clear its data.
Your rights and choices
Because we do not know who you are, most of your control is in your phone:
- Switch notifications off in the app or in Android settings.
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings, and use the ad privacy option in the app where it appears.
- Uninstall the app or clear its data to remove everything stored on the phone.
- Ask us to delete the data linked to your installation. Write to support@khatu-shyam-ji.com and tell us the date you installed and your device model; we will help you identify it and delete what we can.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to its processing. To use them, or to make a complaint, contact us at the address below.
Children
The app is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
All connections to our servers and content use HTTPS. The database is read-only for the app; only our team can change content, and the admin panel requires a Google sign-in on an approved account. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the data we hold to a minimum for this reason.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we will also tell you in the app.
